Officer spared jail after plot to send drugs into prison

Detective Constable Clare Davenport was a serving officer when she, her husband Peter King, and two others plotted to fly contraband into prisons.

During an investigation into the 52-year-old’s illegal activities, her colleagues at Staffordshire Police discovered racist messages on her phone.

Now Davenport has been handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting conspiring to acquire/use/possess criminal property.

King pleaded guilty to conspiring to bring/throw/convey a List A prohibited article into/out of a prison, conspiring to bring/throw/convey a List B prohibited article into/out of a prison, and conspiring to acquire/use/possess criminal property. He has been handed a 78-month prison sentence.

A court heard the incidents took place throughout 2021 and 2022 when drones were ‘flown-to-order’ into HMP Onley in Northamptonshire and HMP Gartree in Leicestershire.
