HUNDREDS of stage hopefuls applied to play the starring role of Maria von Trapp in the West End in The Sound Of Music when the BBC launched How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? in 2006.
Professionals and amateurs alike were encouraged to take part in open auditions and the top 50 were invited to take part in a four-day ‘Maria School’ to work with experts.
