Jof ready to take on Indian wonderkid
Birmingham Mail
|July 09, 2026
JOFRA Archer is looking forward to the next tussle with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, telling the India batter: ‘‘May the best man win.’’
At the age of just 15, Sooryavanshi is already well on the way to superstardom, walking away as the top run-scorer, top six-hitter and most valuable player at this year’s Indian Premier League.
But England have managed to keep him in check across his first two T20 internationals, dismissing the youngster for 14 and 13 in victories at Old Trafford and Trent Bridge.
There have been glimpses of his ball-striking power, with four sixes already under his belt including two in the six deliveries he has faced from Rajasthan Royals team-mate Archer.
The pace bowler exacted revenge in Nottingham, bouncing Sooryavanshi out with a 91mph bumper that whistled past his ears and took a glove on the way through to the wicketkeeper.
‘‘It’s evens now,’’ Archer said. ‘‘We have two games left and it could go anywhere, so may the best man win.’’
