Associations want new government to include stimulus projects in policy statement
A tourism federation is urging the government to launch a stimulus programme for the next few months, while ensuring sufficient fuel supply to support road trips.
Seven tourism associations under the Federation of Thai Tourism Associations (Fetta) have called for stimulus projects worth a combined 15 billion baht, including cash handouts to local tourists, to prevent an industry downturn due to the Gulf war.
Adith Chairattananon, honorary secretary-general of the Association of Thai Travel Agents (Atta), said cancellation rates ballooned during three weeks of strikes in the Middle East, while new bookings for April slowed, including from Chinese travellers. Visitors from the mainland recorded promising signs the first two months of the year, but forward bookings have faded to 60% of available seats in April.
