Dams continue to raise discharge rates

- POST REPORTERS

Many provinces are grappling with severe flooding as reservoirs are exceeding their capacity and major dams continue to increase water discharge rates.

In Ayutthaya, the situation has become critical. The Chao Phraya Dam has been releasing water at 2,200 cubic metres per second for four consecutive days, raising water levels in rivers and canals by 5-10 centimetres as of yesterday.

The rise has flooded eight districts: Sena, Bang Ban, Bang Pain, Bang Sai, Phak Hai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Bang Pahan, and Maha Rat.

The Rama VI Dam in Tha Ruea district is discharging water at a rate of 489 cubic metres per second, inundating downstream areas, especially the Wat Satue community.
