Cops look at temple's accounts
Bangkok Post
|May 19, 2025
Investigators are looking into more than 20 bank accounts linked to Yaem Ink-rungkao, the former abbot of Wat Rai Khing who is accused of embezzling over 300 million baht from the temple, as authorities expand their investigation into the criminal scheme.
Chief of the police Anti-Corruption Division, Pol Maj Gen Prasong Chalermphan, said investigators are also in the process of interviewing witnesses, especially those with access and/or knowledge of the temple’s finances.
He said investigators have found Mr Yaem had transferred over 300 million baht in temple funds between 2020 and 2024 to Aranyawan Wangthapan, a 28-year-old woman who is said to be an online gambling broker. In 2023, Mr Yaem transferred about 80 million baht from his personal accounts to Ms Aranyawan.
