Laying the Road to Future Haryana Emerges As Infra Powerhouse
Outlook
|December 01, 2025
In just over a decade, Haryana has quietly engineered one of India's most extensive infrastructure revamps — laying over 50,000 km of roads, building bridges, bypasses, and boosting rural and regional connectivity
-
Haryana has undergone a powerful transformation in its road and infrastructure network — a revolution that has connected remote villages to cities, boosted rural economies, and redefined the state's mobility landscape.
Massive Road Development
Between October 2014 and August 2025, the state constructed 2,424 km of new roads at an investment of ₹2,541 crore, and upgraded 44,152 km of existing roads at the cost of ₹28,992 crore. In a major policy initiative, the government is committed to converting all revenue routes wider than 33 feet, into paved metal roads, ensuring all-weather access across Haryana.
Under a NABARD scheme (2014-July 2025), 411 projects spanning 2,971 km, were approved with an outlay of ₹2,363 crore, out of which 2,940 km-length has been completed. In FY 2023-24, 59 new roads (540 km) were sanctioned (₹519 crore) while 70 more roads (647 km) worth ₹333 crore have been proposed for 2025-26.
Boosting Rural Connectivity through PMGSY
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), rural road access has increased significantly. In Phase II (2014-2019), 88 roads and 18 bridges (1,016 km) were built at a cost of ₹808 crore.
In Phase III (2019-2025), 259 projects (2,497 km) were sanctioned for ₹1,216 crore, of which 2,461 km are already complete. A Rs 2,726-crore comprehensive road maintenance and upgradation programme was sanctioned in April 2025 for 6,500 km of state roads in FY 2025-26. This includes widening of 1,275 km roads from 12 to 18 feet.
