A more focused flagship

Honor's latest flagship has been available in China since October last year, but it has taken much longer to reach our shores. Over here, it comes in a single configuration - 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage and therefore a single price point. That's a pretty good backing for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip that powers it all, and makes it look like a true flagship phone.

Honor isn't looking to reinvent the wheel with the Magic 8 Pro compared to its predecessor, but there are some small changes that make a meaningful impact. The screen is actually a little smaller than the Magic 7 Pro's, while the new 200MP telephoto camera promises better low-light performance, and Honor's AI-backed image editing toolset has been greatly expanded upon.

The Magic 8 Pro displays iteration, not reinvention, in its design. The drop in screen size makes for a more comfortable hand feel, helped by the phone's micro-curved edge. The larger, black camera module looks both more imposing and better proportioned on the phone's back - compared to the 7 Pro anyway - but you are at greater risk of smudging the lower two camera sensors with a finger, depending on how you hold it.
