In dedication to his late mother, Myth: Evolution’ takes us through the personal and professional journey of Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran through the vision of the dragon.
Swathes of large colourful dragons on mahjong paper, numbered and laid for view, meet the eye at the entrance of the ‘Myth: Evolution’ exhibition at UR-MU @ Toffee Museum. The entire exhibition, featuring some of venerable Malaysian designer Bernard Chandran’s archival works, is built upon the framework of the dragon and showcased in wearable form and designed portraits.
The particularly striking ‘March of Dragons’ showcase presents traditional Chinese jackets of different make, using chiffon and ribbon pieces, with dragon motifs etched onto them. Then, there’s a series of dragon forms threaded onto materials from jute to canvas, and even structured in metalwork. Throughout the entire exhibition, we wondered, why the dragon?
