It's the end of a long day of travelling, outfit changes and posing for the camera. ‘The shoot was interesting,’ says Stormers player Seabelo Senatla. ‘I’m not a model by any stretch of the imagination, so it was out of my realm. I’m looking forward to how it all comes together.’
He’s excited to appear on the cover of our sports and tech issue in collaboration with Amarok, with whom he partnered in 2021 as a brand ambassador. ‘My first meeting with Amarok was interesting. I’d always thought something fast and agile would signify my brand – a nippy car – because that’s what I’m like on the field. When Amarok told me they wanted me, I remember telling my agent I’d never pictured myself driving a bakkie.
‘But looking at their core values and the characteristics of this vehicle, it felt like we were talking about me. Its duality appealed to me, as it represents my character, as does its speed. This is a down-to-earth brand people can relate to, and mine’s the same. It’s been a great partnership.
‘Amarok’s continually evolving and bettering itself. It’s self-aware and knows its strengths and weaknesses, which is where I’m at. I’ve been off the field for a long time, and now I’m returning feeling I’m the best I’ve ever been. Likewise, I think the Amarok’s the best it’s ever been. The new range is bigger, better and more robust.
