I bet a few of you have thought about enjoying a holiday in Montenegro. Me too, especially after a recent google search revealed that it's still one of the most inexpensive places to visit in Europe. So I decided to book a trip and find out more.
A young, up-and-coming Balkan country, the former Yugoslavia is steeped in some serious history. Pouring out into the stunning azure blue Adriatic Sea, it is surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and shares borders with Croatia, Serbia to the north, and Albania to the south.
A developing tourist industry is plain to see, but if you visit in the next few years, you'll see its raw true self and it's Italian influenced family orientated way of life. We witnessed numerous families having a barbecue under the shade of an ancient waterside pine tree, three to four generations laughing, eating, playing, and swimming in the humid muggy heat of an Adriatic summer's eve. It was like a scene from Mamma Mia!
