Amid Meghalaya's verdant hills, atArchitecture envisions a striking yellow beacon that embodies the partnership between architectural innovation, the farmers' collective and the community's vision
An emerald hillside, sodden earth trails, and the distinct sweet-musky aroma of jackfruits weave their scent into the wind. At the Gulpani Nokat village in Meghalaya, the Jackfruit Processing Unit and Community Centre conceived by Avneesh Tiwari and Neha Rane, Principal Architects atArchitecture, the built form feels as much as a belonging as it surprises.
Born out of the studio's love for material experimentation and their travels, this 5,000 state government-backed initiative, developed with the Anant Foundation for Innovation and Social Inclusion (AFISI), fuses sustainability, community empowerment, and the studio's approach to craft unconventional yet elegantly restrained architectural forms that feel fresh without ever tipping into the extravagant.
