When Functionality Meets Style: Garden Style

How an old desk and hutch can become your favorite potting bench.

Planting flowers and working in the yard has always been one of my favorite things about the spring and summer seasons. I tend to use a lot of perennials in my flower beds and annuals in my pots and containers. I have always thought that having a potting bench would be so helpful when working with my containers! I looked online for new ones but wanted something budget friendly.

My husband could have built me one, and maybe one day he will, but it's been on the never-ending project list. I loved the idea of finding a vintage one, but where I live, they cost more than new ones. Since none of those ideas worked within my budget or timeline, I had the idea to repurpose a piece of furniture.

After a quick search on Facebook Marketplace. I found the perfect desk with a hutch. It was the ideal size and on budget! Once I got the desk home, I got to work removing the doors, drawers, and some of the shelves.

The desktop was brown, and even though it didn't have to be done, I painted the top to match the rest of the piece.
