Sipping java ahead of hitting the store could be roasting your budget, per a recent study in the Journal of Marketing. When researchers treated half of 300 shoppers to a cup of caffeinated joe before cruising the aisles, they found that jolted customers purchased almost 30 percent more merchandise than those who had decaf or water. Why? Caffeine's stimulating properties release dopamine in the brain, and higher levels of dopamine can result in more impulsivity.
