A simple diet switch can power up your mealtimes and boost your vitality

Dump the SLUMP

Did you know that your diet could be to blame for your energy peaks and troughs? That's because it's not only what you eat, but when you eat that could massively impact your wellbeing throughout the day.

'Our body has a natural circadian rhythm and carries out its functions at the same time each day - regardless of whether we're asleep or awake,' says clinical nutritionist Suzie Sawyer. Discovering your body's natural flow could help to fight fatigue, beat cravings and boost productivity. Here's what you need to know.

A change from tradition

For most, the concept of eating three meals a day is one that's been drummed into our heads since childhood, but spacing meals out could help stretch out energy levels through the day.

'Rather than aggressively cutting back on calories, two mini meals weaved in with three main meals or six small meals can often work better,' says health coach Holly Zoccolan. Leave around two hours between mini meals if you're eating six times per day and three hours between each meal if you're eating five times a day, as this will help to keep your blood sugar levels even and energy levels high. 'It will also help to prevent overeating and allow us to stay in touch with our bodies' hunger cues,' adds Holly.
