Medicines are potent substances that need to be taken in appropriate doses. Even food for that matter, if taken in large portions leads to health issues. With medicines, one has to be extra cautious not to overdose. Even natural products cause deleterious effects on overdosing.
Alcohol is not a medicine; however, there is large consumption of alcohol in society for recreational purposes. Excess consumption of alcohol by a person, also called alcohol poisoning, leads to depression of brain, thinking and even the breathing slows down. Alcohol poisoning is accompanied by increased urination and vomiting that causes dehydration and electrolyte loss. There are also cases where excess alcohol consumption has led to vomiting and movement of fluid into lungs and this causes lung infection. Excess alcohol consumption leads to low blood sugar and epileptic seizures. Toxic amounts of alcohol leads to coma and even death.
