The bright side
VOGUE India
|December 2022
In its seventh edition, the Dior Lady Art project collaborates with artists from across borders and cultures to reinterpret the iconic Lady Dior. Here, three artists reveal how they approached the discourse of femininity with the classic bag.
Divine femininity, body politics and a quest for tranquillity are all subjects that interpret Dior’s legacy bag for what will be its seventh generation. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s homage to Dior’s most classically known iteration is a year-on-year tradition of the Dior Lady Art project. It’s a testament to its long-standing popularity, enjoyed by enthusiasts across the globe. But more than its success, Chiuri has established the French luxury house as an entity that is sincere in its celebration of innovative thinking—whether politically or creatively derived. The project answers that quality by providing carte blanche access to artists across the world over the classic Lady Dior bag. This year, 11 of them reinterpret the top-handle with their own designs that filter in thoughts, forward-thinking ideals and a sensitivity that is clearly reflected in each artist’s renditions.
