WHAT WILL BEAUTY LOOK LIKE IN 2055?

LET'S TAKE A SECOND TO REFLECT ON BEAUTY BACK in 1995. There were the woefully exclusionary shade ranges, and the narrow beauty ideals with minimal room for anything that didn't fit a narrow, Eurocentric mold.

Our advice was gleaned from department store counters, magazines or maybe your local Avon lady. Formulas were largely basic, with blanket solutions that focused more on marketing than real efficacy or results.

Now consider where we are in 2025. Thirty years on, we're entering an era of serums engineered with biological precision, AI diagnostics and personalised aesthetic treatments. Beauty has evolved beyond appearance, with longevity, personalisation, advanced technology and experiential touchpoints now redefining the way we engage with it. Let’s look at what's next.

FROM ANTI-AGEING TO LONGEVITY

One of the most notable shifts that’s already underway is the move from “anti-ageing” to skin longevity. There's a reframing of beauty objectives from reversal to prevention, resilience and repair. “The term ‘anti-ageing’ is starting to feel outdated,” says Shinta Huynh, a leading Sydney product developer. “Today's focus is more on longevity, skin health and resilience. There’ a shift toward protecting and strengthening the skin barrier, calming inflammation and supporting the skin’s natural repair processes at every age.”

This evolving mindset is equally visible in aesthetic medicine. Kirby Clarke, associate medical director ANZ at Allergan Aesthetics, points to the growing popularity of “prejuvenation’, which involves in-clinic treatments to maintain youthful features and delay visible ageing. “The prejuvenation trend encourages an integrated approach combining treatments with overall skincare and wellness practices,” Clarke explains.
