During April 1993, the world watched in horror as a stand-off between US government forces and a religious cult in Waco, Texas, ended in a deadly fire.

In all, 86 people were killed, including four federal agents.

The cult, known as the Branch Davidians, was led by self-proclaimed prophet David Koresh, who took multiple wives, stockpiled assault weapons and promised to lead his people to salvation. But almost a third of his followers were British.
