AI has the power to transform the educational landscape of today, solving some of the biggest challenges of modern-day education. The transition from conventional teaching and learning methods to an AI-enabled or tech-enabled learning is observed in many domains of study, including secondary to senior secondary education as well as college education.

According to UNESCO, AI powered education has the ability to drive progress towards SDG 4 that focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The mandate of UNESCO calls for a human-centred approach to AI. It inherently means to utilise AI to help solve the current disparities in accessing access to knowledge, research, and cultural expression. The promise of “AI for all” guarantees that all may benefit from the ongoing technological transformation and enjoy its benefits, particularly in terms of creativity and knowledge.
Why do we Need AI-enabled Education?
The goal of education in the 21st century is to equip students with the knowledge and abilities that will allow them to thrive in the dynamic and interdependent world of today, as well as the confidence that will enable them to effectively utilise their talents and abilities. Moreover, the skills in the 21st century are significantly based on examining the abundance of information and making informed decisions based on that data.
Dr Vimal Babu, Associate Professor, SRM University-AP in his article “The Future of Learning” opines that due to shifting demographics, economic conditions, and technological advances, the educational landscape is always developing. He states, “The rising prevalence of technological integration into the classroom is one of the most promising developments in education. With the proliferation of smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices, as well as web-based curriculum and assessment tools, technology is rapidly becoming an essential component of the modern educational experience.”
