Backed by bold policy and surging demand, India could see an EV explosion by 2032, with scooters, rickshaws, and private cars leading the charge.

INDIA GEARS UP FOR 123 MILLION EVS BY 2032, SAYS NEW REPORT

India's electric vehicle (EV) revolution is picking up speed. A new report by the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) and Customized Energy Solutions (CES) paints a picture of a future where over 123 million electric vehicles could be silently gliding across Indian roads by 2032— provided the country follows its most ambitious path for EV adoption.

The projection is not just about big numbers—it signals a deep transformation in how India moves, fuelled by a mix of cleaner technology, supportive policies, and rising consumer awareness. The shift isn't decades away. It's already unfolding, most visibly through the massive surge in electric two and three-wheelers, which today make up more than 93% of the country's EV fleet.

From delivery scooters to e-rickshaws zipping through narrow lanes, these compact EVs are driving real change on the ground. In contrast, electric four-wheelers currently hold a smaller slice—around 6%—while electric buses and trucks are still a rare sight, contributing less than 1% of the EV stock. But that's set to change, especially with increased demand for cleaner public transport and sustainable logistics solutions.
