In a landscape dominated by high-cost corporate medicine and crowded specialisations, one clinician's journey reflects a deliberate shift toward accessibility, precision, and purpose-driven healthcare leadership

A Nephrologist’s Quiet Revolution In Regional Healthcare

The story of Dr. Sarath Babu Geda unfolds not through spectacle, but through a series of deliberate choices that challenge conventional pathways in modern medicine. At a time when cardiology and neurology drew the brightest graduates in overwhelming numbers, his decision to pursue nephrology was both strategic and introspective. It was not merely about entering a less crowded field, but about creating a space where expertise could translate into tangible impact. Nearly two decades since completing his DM in Nephrology from PGI Chandigarh in 2006, his journey reflects the evolving dynamics of specialised healthcare in India's emerging urban centres.

A DIFFERENT PATH IN A CROWDED PROFESSION

When Dr. Sarath began his practice in Vijayawada in 2006, nephrology was still an emerging speciality in the region. He was among only a handful of nephrologists in the city, navigating a domain that demanded both technical precision and long term patient engagement. His early years were marked by rigorous clinical practice at Andhra Hospital and consistent outreach to a medical college hospital in Eluru, where he travelled twice weekly for nearly a decade.

This period proved foundational. In 2009, he led the first kidney transplantation in Eluru, marking a significant milestone in regional healthcare delivery. At a time when advanced procedures were largely concentrated in metropolitan centres, such interventions began to decentralise access to life saving treatments. For Dr. Sarath, nephrology was not just a career choice, but a commitment to building capacity where it was most needed.
