THE DUTCH GOVERNMENT has been granted the authority to curtail flights at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to mitigate its environmental impact on the surrounding area, which could result in an eight-percent flight reduction beginning next year. The move aims to minimize noise pollution and carbon emissions, but it has raised concerns within the airline industry.

The Dutch government can now reduce flights at Schiphol from 500,000 to 460,000 annually, following the Amsterdam Court of Appeal’s decision. The move aims to balance the airport’s economic importance as an international hub with the interests of residents and the environment.
