AFTER HITTING 200 MILLION USERS IN INDIA, SNAP IS HUNGRY FOR MORE. THE MULTIMEDIA MESSAGING PLATFORM SEES A BIGGER STORY IN INDIA'S DEMOGRAPHIC, SYNCING WITH ITS CORE TARGET AUDIENCE
IN SYNC
Multimedia messaging platform Snapchat, which is targeted towards the 1334 age group, recently hit 200 million monthly users in India, a country it entered in 2019
India’s vast young population works to the advantage of Snap, the company that developed Snapchat, and it has set its sights on attaining 500 million monthly users in India
Experts say India as a market for social media is underpenetrated, and has high potential. Plus, its young population means that Snap’s next wave of users will come from markets like India
Snap says its AR offering has immense value for advertising and e-commerce players as it will lead to a potential customer being able to ‘try on’ something before buying it
The overall addressable market for Snap in India by the end of the decade, say experts, will be a billion users; and that can translate into revenue of $4 billion from the country
SOME THINGS, THET say, are made for each other. Like cricket and Indian fans; peanut butter and chocolate; or smartphones and social media. Now add one more to the mix—Snapchat and India’s young population.
