As Uttar Pradesh chases its trillion-dollar ambition, the state is betting on manufacturing, infrastructure, regional growth and private investment to power its next phase of economic expansion
- ALOK KUMAR On Structuring Uttar Pradesh’s Trillion-Dollar Economy
UTTAR PRADESH’S trillion-dollar economic ambition was presented not as a distant aspiration, but as a carefully structured growth strategy built on scale, execution and long-term planning at the recently held BW Businessworld’s CFO Offsite in Lucknow.
Speaking on the theme “Think Scale, Act Scale: Structuring a Trillion Dollar Growth Story,” Alok Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Planning and Programme Implementation Department, and Nodal Officer for Uttar Pradesh’s One Trillion Dollar Economy Initiative, outlined how India’s most populous state is positioning itself as one of the country’s most significant growth engines through a combination of infrastructure development, industrial expansion, investment promotion and policy-led governance.
Addressing an audience of CFOs, industry leaders and investors, Kumar framed Uttar Pradesh’s transformation as part policy push, part governance reset and part competitive federalism.
“Now this is the change which we are witnessing over the last nine to ten years,” he said, referring to Lucknow hosting a national-level CFO gathering. “And thanks to the Honorable CM and his leadership, we have this opportunity to take UP to the forefront of development.”
Closing the GDP Gap
At the heart of the presentation was a blunt economic reality. Uttar Pradesh today is a nearly $350 billion economy, but to reach the trillion-dollar milestone it will have to expand almost three times over the coming years.
