Lee was a four-time World Champion at the Naples, Florida Swamp Buggy races in the 1960s. Lee’s Buggy was “Pony Express” at the old Radio Road track. Eventually, it got too expensive to be competitive, so he retired and turned to airboating. However, he had won four World Championships and achieved a spot in the Florida Swamp Buggy Racing Hall of Fame. Back then, the buggies were two-seaters. Racing legend Capt. Ray Thornton said he used to ride in Lee Hancock’s buggy and that got him started into buggy racing.
