HONDA HAS ENGINEERED plenty of successful SUVs, but it struggled to figure out the two-row mid-sizer.
The original Isuzu-based Passport was an effective enough stopgap during the Clinton administration, but it was never a real alternative to the original Jeep Grand Cherokee. And the bizarre, short-lived Honda Crosstour hunchback definitely wasn't what buyers wanted in this segment. The third-generation Passport that arrived for 2019 was on the right track, but it looked too much like a minivan.
