Amped to go

The first all-electric model in Alfa Romeo storied history carries a 115-year legacy of passion and performance into a new age, but can it live up to such high expectations?

The Alfa Romeo Junior started life as a striking concept with a name that carries a great deal of historical weight, but of more importance is that it heralds in a new era for the Stellantis subsidiary - it's the first fully electric model in the Italian firm's 115-year history. Like many of the new models arriving on our shores, it's essentially a compact crossover but with a healthy dose of typical Italian design flair thrown in for good measure.

All of the stylistic hallmarks are there, including the signature 'trilobo' nose that incorporates the 'scudetto' shield grille. The 20-inch, four-spoke alloys wrapped in 235/40 R20 Michelin tyres further add to the pure theatre for which many Alfa Romeo's are so well renowned. Inside, bucket-style seats secure the driver and front passenger, and even though the instrumentation is digital, the dual-cowl housings over the 'dials' on the driver's side of the facia are a pleasing nod to the Alfas of old.
