Conceived by the FIA and Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) in 2018 and brought to fruition in 2023, the modern regulations and broad appeal associated with the current top tier of the World Endurance Championship continue to draw the attention of some of the world's leading automobile manufacturers. Known as the Hypercar category, the appeal of this restructured racing formula includes a considered cost structure, purportedly competitive racing, and the ability to showcase respective future-focused powertrain technologies.
THE 93RD RUNNING OF LE MANS
Held from 11 to 15 June, the showpiece of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship was hosted at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France. Marking the halfway point of the season, the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains widely regarded as one of the toughest motor races in the world.
The scene of some of the most dramatic racing moments of the past century, the return of so many iconic nameplates to this series ensured keen interest from a global audience in the 93rd running of this event. Including a selection of some of the most accomplished drivers in the world - among them South African, Sheldon van der Linde - this year's Hypercar entry list included the likes of Cadillac, Peugeot, Aston Martin, BMW, Porsche, Toyota, Alpine (Renault), and Ferrari.
While the LMP2 field category continues to prove competitive, the return of so many established brands to the LMGT3 category, where the cars are instantly recognisable, makes for compelling viewing. In the 2025 event, this list included Aston Martin, BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.
