Bike India caught up with Sanjay Behl, CEO and Executive Director of Greaves Electric Mobility Private Limited (GEMPL), who, with their "Ampere" brand, have managed to capture a significant share of the electric two-wheeler market
For how long have Greaves Electric Mobility been charting their journey in the electric vehicle (EV) arena? What was your roadmap like ahead of the EV push which began in India?
Greaves Cotton Ltd (GCL) was one of the earliest companies to recognise India's potential in the world of EV and ventured into it ahead of the competition. Our priority is to address real-world challenges such as accelerating clean mobility adoption with a product portfolio that meets the needs of different consumers and price segments by democratising smart and sustainable mobility solutions, helping the bottom-of-the-pyramid customers with passenger and cargo three-wheelers that offer disruptive cost-savings and lower cost to serve and have a positive impact on the planet. GEMPL, the electric mobility business of GCL, has been electrifying last-mile mobility with electric two- and three-wheelers for personal mobility, passenger mobility, and cargo mobility through the acquisition of Ampere in 2019. With a strong base of over 1.8 lakh happy electric two-wheeler customers, GEMPL have created impact at scale with 1.3 billion-plus e-kilometres travelled, 35 million-plus litres of fuel saved, and 2.2 million-plus trees saved.
How encouraging were the numbers a few years ago as compared to what they are today?
