Triumph gives its entry-level Trident 17 per cent more power to take the fight to the competition. We flew to sunny Spain for the first ride

COMPETITION FOCUSED UPGRADE

AMONG THE TWEAKS and upgrades to the Trident 660, the headline news is its significant power boost compared to the 2025 model. In fact, Triumph has given its entry-level roadster no less than 17 per cent more horsepower than the current bike and 20 per cent more rpm, while its inline triple now revs to an exciting 12,650 rpm.

While the jump from 81 hp to 95 hp, along with an increase in torque from 64 Nm to 68 Nm, is unusually large, Triumph claims that 80 per cent of that peak torque is available from just 3,000 rpm and that its everyday usability remains fully intact. Pricing, meanwhile, remains ultra-competitive. At just over £8,000 (Rs 10.24 lakh), the 2026 update is only a little more expensive than the machine it will replace.

Meanwhile, chassis updates are less dramatic. Showa SFF-BP forks remain intact, along with twin 310-mm front discs and Nissin callipers, but the rear shock, also by Showa, is new, and there is a slight tweak to the main frame to accommodate three throttle bodies rather than the single one as before. Weight rises by five kilograms, but the key dimensions are almost identical to those of the previous model.

As you would expect of Triumph, there are lean-sensitive rider aids and multiple ride modes, all selectable from the colour dash, which remains unchanged from 2025, apart from that higher rev range. Cosmetic tweaks and three fresh colour options complete the updates.

imageOn paper, all this amounts to a significant step up in performance without compromising the Trident 660’s essential accessibility and ease of use. We flew out to southern Spain to experience how much more exciting the new Trident 660 could be.
