HORSE POWERTRAIN, THE company set up in 2024 by Renault and Geely to develop advanced powertrains for, as one insider put it, “anyone that wants them”, has been busy ever since.

The firm’s latest reveal is the 3.0-litre Horse W30, its first V6 engine, which is claimed to be 10kg lighter than the nearest equivalent, at just 160kg.
The V6 will be integrated with the Horse 4LDHT transmission in both P1 and P3 configurations. P1 means the electric drive is connected directly to the engine’s crankshaft. With P3, the motor is mounted after the gearbox and is able to power the vehicle when the combustion engine has stopped.
The W30 is a 90deg V6, rather than the 60deg vee that has traditionally been considered easier to package transversely in an engine bay. Horse says the advantage is that the centre of gravity is lower and it is easier to accommodate the catalytic converter layout.
