New digital passport hailed as game-changer for horses

The FEI has launched its new system, which it hopes will be a major step towards fully connected equine traceability

A NEW digital passport system has been described as a milestone that “marks a decisive step toward a secure, efficient and fully connected system for horse sport”.

Equipass, the digital passport “designed to centralise information and integrate seamlessly with existing systems”, was unveiled at the FEI General Assembly (4-7 November). It complements each horse’s physical passport by providing a single platform for identification, medical history, vaccination records, location and travel documents that can be accessed by owners, riders, grooms, vets, officials and authorities.

FEI veterinary director Göran Akerström said it is “a milestone for our sport”.
