'Quirky' mare is worth the wait

The feature class results in a surprise watershed victory while a mare proves well suited to being produced in the UK

THERE were just 0.27sec dividing the top three finishers in a competitive 1.40m, where Joe Fernyhough landed victory with the "quirky" Cancari V Z.

Joe bought the 11-year-old mare from client Jasmin Head last year and later sold her to owner Mike Florence.

"She's not won anything till now," Joe said. "She can be strong and it's taken me this long to get where I want her.

"There isn't a course she can't jump for scope but her rideability was bad, I couldn't make use of the ability she had."

Joe finished 0.09sec in front of Rebecca Marsh and her ever-competitive Stevie G, while Alex Bragg (Hegglelane Houston) was a mere 0.18sec further adrift in third.
