NATIVE OYSTERS (OSTREA EDULIS) WERE once a mainstay of Britain's coastline, providing essential water conditions and habitat for myriad marine species.

However, since the 1800s, habitat loss, over-harvesting, pollution and disease have led to a 95 per cent decline in the population.
