HOW DO YOU OPERATE? We started our stokvel last year and our monthly contribution is R200. The money helps most of us if we have lost a loved one. The money we contribute assists a bereaved family with funeral arrangements and buying groceries. Through it all, it is mostly about helping each other through difficult times. We rotate our meetings which are held at members&rsquo; homes and we all contribute R50 each for refreshments and drinks.WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED? We wouldn&rsquo;t say we have achieved a lot because it is not a long time since we started the stokvel. We have recently bought uniform for our stokvel, which includes sweaters for winter. As a society we have also created an environment of trust. There is so much lined up that we will be doing this year like having our own transport.WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?Most of us are parents who live with orphans. We are planning on including them in our stokvel so that if something happens to them, they can be covered. We also want to carry on with the stokvel so that our children can continue with it someday. We are open to people who would like to join us.
