INTELLIGENT - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i

Compact Yoga laptop from Lenovo relies on artificial intelligence

Lenovo’s Yoga series mostly catered to 2-in-1s back then, emphasising on the device’s body-bending tricks. However, the series has evolved a lot over the years. Take the new Yoga Slim 7i, for instance. It does not tent or completely turn its back to transform into a full-fledged Windows tablet, but it keeps Yoga’s tenet alive - it can do a 180-degree split with the screen going completely flat. However, the Yoga Slim 7i makes its case with the use of AI-centric features. Is it enough? Let’s find out.

The Yoga Slim 7i is an attractive and solidly built laptop. Carved out of aluminium, the choice of material affirms its premium build quality and a dash of slate grey paint job adding to its looks. The laptop is portable and compact and weighs just 1.36kg. You will find a good amount of I/O ports around the sides with 2 Type-C ports, 2 Type-A ports, 3.5mm audio jack for mic and earphones and a full-size HDMI port.

The Yoga Slim 7i features a 14-inch Full HD (1920x1080) resolution IPS panel with a glossy glass protecting it. During our use, we found the screen to be vibrant, good contrast and bright, which goes up to 300 nits. The screen also supports Dolby Vision, and with two 2W Dolby Atmos speakers alongside the keyboard, one can enjoy watching them on the laptop.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13 (AMD): A Solid Contender

The celebrated ThinkPad X1 Carbon isn’t the only compelling ultraportable in Lenovo’s business lineup. If that 14-inch premium laptop is a bit too rich for your blood, consider the ThinkPad X13, a 13.3-inch model available with either Intel or AMD CPU silicon under the hood. The AMD Ryzen-based system we tested starts at just $683 and is $1,004 in our specific test configuration—much more affordable than the Carbon, which is compensation for the X13 weighing more (2.8 versus 2.4 pounds) despite its slightly smaller screen. The X13’s six-core Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U processor gives it impressive performance, though we could wish for a couple more hours of battery life. And the X13’s keyboard and construction quality are up to ThinkPad standards—faultless. If your budget doesn’t stretch to the Carbon or a Dell XPS 13, this is a first-class option.
