Without Security, Digital India Will Be A Fortress Without Walls
DataQuest
|April 30, 2016
It is crystal clear that cybersecurity is no longer chiefly the domain of CIO, CSOs, or even the IT department. The push towards Digital India will require a critical push towards security becoming a companywide and even national concern demanding oversight and direction from the broader community.
Digital India is the embodiment of a billion Indian dreams to have instant access to services and information by harnessing the power of digital technologies. The initiative has the potential to create unprecedented opportunities for all citizens towards a better standard of living. Through digitization, the initiative aims to provide a turbo boost to nine core pillars of growth, viz: Broadband Highways,Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity, Public Internet Access Programme, e-Governance, Electronic Delivery of Services, Information for All, Electronics Manufacturing, IT for Jobs and Early Harvest Programme. Digital India is an ambitious program with an initial outlay of over `110,000 crore!
Each one of the above core growth areas mentioned above, embody a complex program in itself. Yet, all have one common framework which is represented by their inherent dependence on robust and secure application of disruptive technologies like the cloud, mobile applications and even better broadband connectivity. By improving access to online infrastructure, the program envisions that all stakeholders will be able to access to digital services, knowledge and information. Work towards this has already begun too. For instance: almost 1.1 mn Indian citizens have uploaded over 1.8 mn documents since the launch of the digi-locker facility by the National e-Governance Division.
