The student team called KNOx from IIT Roorkee created NIITRO – a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with an objective of showcasing its technical capacities to the automotive industry experts at the annual BAJA SAEINDIA event. At the event, the team also displayed how the vehicle offers substantial advantages based on design synchronisation among the five technical verticals, including computer aided engineering (CAE), powertrain, suspension, steering and braking.
The official off-road racing team of IIT Roorkee, Team KNOx comprises 35 interdisciplinary undergraduate students and is led by captains Abhinandan Malik and Gaurav Singhal. The team operates under the guidance of Prof Akshay Dvivedi and Prof Arup K Das.
OBJECTIVE
Being part of the vehicle design and fabrication process enables students to attain hands-on experience that subsequently enhances their theoretical and practical skills as the project is executed. The IIT Roorkee team during the test trials learned to solve issues related to design and manufacturing. Moreover, creating the ATV enables the KNOx team to develop a proactive approach towards various timelines, thereby enhancing the performance of their vehicles without any major hiccups.

Good lighting makes a major contribution to road safety. In 2011, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) presented an evaluation system for headlamps that can objectively assess the quality of illumination and glare limitation. New light sources like LEDs and lighting functions (glare-free high beam, partial high beam) have been available for several years, so that an extension of the proven CIE method is necessary, which takes into account, among other things, changed switch-on and service lives of new lighting functions and represents a generally understandable evaluation system. An evaluation system presented in the following by the Technische Uni versität Darmstadt, which was developed by an encompassing expert commission, is intended to provide representative data and enable an objective evaluation of headlamp performance.
