‘Crisis Meeting' As Birmingham Faces Lockdown
Daily Express
|August 21, 2020
Birmingham is on the brink of a city-wide lockdown after health chiefs held crisis talks.
-
Health Secretary Matt Hancock last night is believed to have chaired a “gold command” meeting with local leaders following a rise in infections.
Area public health director Dr Justin Varney reportedly told business leaders at a webinar the city would “go on the national watchlist” today.
Other towns in the danger zone include Pendle, Oldham, Blackburn along with Darwen and Bradford.
Birmingham saw around 29.1 cases per 100,000 people in the week to August 17, up from 25.6 the previous week.
