In 1986, she was the first woman to become a Senior Advocate in the 154-year-old Bombay High Court.
In 2005, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India for her service to the cause of public affairs.
In 2009, she became the first woman to be appointed Additional Solicitor General of India for the Supreme Court.
Most recently, she was ranked at number 20 on Fortune’s 50 Greatest Leaders of 2018 – alongside incredible personalities like Oprah Winfrey, Emmanuel Macron, and Bill and Melinda Gates!
She also loves Indian classical music.
Meet lawyer and human rights activist Indira Jaising, whose career trajectory has only pointed upwards, checking off a long list of firsts on its way. With her mother hailing from Karachi, and her father from Shikarpur, Indira was born in Mumbai and grew up surrounded by family. She attended Saint Theresa’s Convent, Santa Cruz, and then continued and completed her schooling at Bishop Cottons in Bangalore. A graduate of Maharani’s College, she then moved back to Mumbai where she studied law at the Government Law College and Siddharth Law College.
