Within the inner north of Australia’s capital city, there is an emerging creative metropolis all of its own. Lonsdale Street – in the Canberra suburb of Braddon – is now bustling with artisan coffee roasters, unforgettable eateries and charming shopfronts filled with the work of local makers.

Lou Moxom and Belinda Whitney consider themselves one of the first florists in Canberra to “break the rules”. They moved to the street permanently five years ago, determined to deliver flowers with a difference. With plants suspended from tall ceilings and a store that’s overflowing with fresh blooms of all shades and varieties, it certainly doesn’t feel like any ordinary florist. “We banned products that have had their day, we refused to copy anything and we try to source products ethically and honestly,” says Lou. “We like to think of our store as a little floral cave, a green oasis in the city.”
