Just remembering to do these eight simple things can make a big difference to your health...
CHEW YOUR FOOD
WHY? Chewing your food well is an important part of a smooth digestion process. It sends messages to your gut to get your digestive juices flowing, so you avoid the acid indigestion you get when you wolf down your dinner. Your body’s better able to pull out nutrients from food that’s been chewed into an almost liquid consistency. What’s more, research has shown that people who chew more, generally eat less too.
FIX IT: Cut up food into smaller pieces before chewing each bite until it has turned to liquid. Avoid drinking a lot of water with your meal – this can encourage you to eat large chunks of food.
BlINK
WHY? There’s good reason behind why we blink. It cleans the surface of the eyes helping prevent infection, and flushes fresh tears and mucous over the surface to keep them healthy. We blink about 20 times in a minute but not blinking enough leaves us at risk of dry eyes.
FIX IT: ‘Try to “think and blink” using the 20:20:20 rule,’ says optometrist Francesca Marchetti. ‘Every 20 minutes, look 20 metres away for 20 seconds – and blink 20 times. This will keep your eyes lubricated and hydrated.
