Hear the whole KAHAANI, from the horse’s mouth as SUJOY G HOSH speaks to SHUBARNA MUKERJI SHU.
I am afraid to ask you about the pressure you might be under – with KAHAANI entering the annals of Indian cinema, KAHAANI 2, has to achieve that and a lot more!
People keep asking me this question, in terms of pressure. And I cannot even think about it like that, because that would be suicide. For me, KAHAANI 2 had it own demands, its own requirements. And we went with it. We hope that you will like it as much as you liked the first film. And that it helps us retain the love and respect the audience has given us. So to answer your question – I am not thinking about the pressure – thus escaping it!
So since we are not thinking about things that worry, let’s talk about things that make you happy! What is your joy when it comes to cinema?
To get an idea! Believe me, as simple as it sounds, it is not so in the least. Everywhere around you something or the other is happening, something new... but not everything deserves to be put on the silver screen. It happens by instinct... the process of turning that idea, giving it a shape, light – turning it into something that you might like seeing onscreen. Of course, once that’s done, to take to a corner and shit bricks wondering what will happen on the day of the release, which has its own charm! Trust me, it is damn scary. But then filmmaking is like having a child. Isn’t it ironic that most films take about 9 months to complete!
I hear you, and I see a man who enjoys the trials and the triumphs of filmmaking, right from weaving a story to making it all come to life. Yet, you have been part of something like TE3N wherein you wrote a story and then handed over your vision to someone else to take it forward. It might be the toughest thing to do!
