I Don't Talk On Phone: Shah Rukh Khan
CineBlitz|January 2016

Romance, his enthusiasm, his reclusiveness, his method… When Shah Rukh Khan holds forth as only he can, who can stay unmoved? Pratishtha Malhotra is no exception.

Pratishtha Malhotra

He is a warrior who roams about with his scars from every battle… yet he never lets any scar come between him and his work. Now that he would have to go through another surgery, he says that work comes first and the surgery would only happen post March. Till then he would be taking extra precautions while he shoots action…”I’ll do action, I’ll do it in a different way, will use duplicates. I think you need to figure out a way to organise yourself.” As we sit in the plush Red Chillies office while Shah Rukh Khan munches on his sandwiches, I tee off...

You have always been someone who comes with baggage on the set – loads of enthusiasm! After so many years of performing, how do you keep the fire burning?

For so many years to work so constantly and keep on listening to all good things and bad things, you kind of become immune as if you are King Khan? Or a X or a Y? Is mukaam par pahuchne ke baad aadmi ka khud ka kuch nahi rehta, we become a part of this system and it is important for us to work for that system then. When we are young, we think that I want that title, this award, I’ll do this and that but then, after 25 years of doing this everyday with make-up for 12-13 hours, I don’t know what I want to do for myself anymore, or what I want to become or what will happen to me. You just keep doing it because somewhere you feel that this is what you were meant to do. This is a little philosophical but shayad sab kuch hai mere pass but I can’t use whatever I have. You know about the book, ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’? I am the monk who has a Ferrari but doesn’t drive it too much (Smiles)… But honestly to tell you the truth, I love the space of being in front of the camera, there is nothing else I like more - my children and my family of course! People say that it is an auto system but rather it is a survival symptom. It is a very different head space and it is very difficult to describe my head space.

And what about all that energy that you have been carrying with you from the very first day that you came to this City Of Dreams?
