LISA RAY MOTHER TO SUFI AND SOLEIL

My Loves, my Rossogollas, my Mystical Girls, Sufiand Soleil,

When you arrived you were both tiny, like baby birds slipped out of the nest. Since that moment, your daddy and I feel we have entered a garden bursting with colour. I had a stack of baby books by my bed which I’ve thrown away. I don’t need them; you both every day, teach me who you are. You are wisdom wrapped in these roly-poly, willful, pooing, adorable packages.

You both came into the world with your own strong personalities and spirits. Sufi; you are stronger and more determined at three months than your mama at 46, with oodles of charisma. Soleil; when you gaze at the world in wonder, you bring me into the same state of wonder. Because of you I am falling in love with the world all over again. We jokingly call you both Souffle, because it is one of the most delicious and yet difficult dishes to execute perfectly. My Souffle.

I don’t want to influence your exploration and adventure by labelling the world anything other than complex. I will try to give you a strong foundation so you both can fly and explore. You can accomplish whatever you desire. I know the world will not hold you back because the future is female. No one can ever hold you back, when you remember you both carry the qualities of the goddess.

The world will try to tell you who you are – you must laugh when that happens. You belong to yourself. Pursuing your dreams and happiness is important but it’s also not everything. We are all interconnected on this planet. Serve others. Even small acts of kindness lead to an epidemic of compassion. And I know you both want to change the world for the better. Enjoy all the flickering moments and joys but know there is more. Have a blast, have fun, sample everything – everything – but know you exist on a scale larger than this fleeting life.
