Adventurers, Meet Your Compass
Jeep: A name so popular, it is synonymous with adventure, off roading and fun, so much so that most 4x4s in India that boast go-anywhere capabilities are colloquially called “jeep”. When it comes to this brand, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. The emotion attached to the iconic American marque is the same for everyone: a symbol of the spirit of freedom—to go anywhere and do anything.
A part of the FCA Group that includes names such as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Fiat, Dodge and Ram Trucks, Jeep entered the Indian market in 2015 with two offerings: the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler. Both these SUVs carry on the legacy of offering the best off-road experience while being cocooned in comfort. However, their price tags made them a bit out of reach for some.
This is where the Compass comes in. The soon-to-be-launched mid-size SUV (in India) is a bonafide Jeep, sharing important similarities with its legendary larger siblings, the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. There’s always this scepticism that rears its head as to whether a manufacturer’s claims about the superiority of a product is mere hype or the truth. A test drive was to prove that the makers of the Compass weren’t just blowing smoke and that it indeed does take after its elder siblings by offering an immersive off-road experience.
