If you want to completely crush all types of off-road terrain and blow minds at the valet station, try rolling up in the highest-performance, most luxurious, straight-up craziest street-legal offroader ever to roll out of Stuttgart: the Mercedes Benz G 63 AMG 6x6. Naturally it’s got plenty of horsepower with a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 under the hood, but it’s those six wheels that make the most exclusive Mercedes’ 4-door ever such a stunner. It’s also a near million-dollar vehicle these days, so we’ll go out on a limb and say you’re not quite liquid enough to pick one up just yet. You can, however, experience the ultimate Geländewagen in RC form with the brand-new Traxxas TRX-6. You wouldn’t be wrong to call it a TRX-4 with an extra axle, but it’s much more than that. There’s a new set of rails and other chassis components designed specifically for 6X6 duty, and as you can see, the truck is completely faithful to the real deal—right down to a complete set of LEDs and model-specific wheels and tires. It’s also the most loaded TRX truck, since it also includes the TRX-series signature High-Low transmission and remote-locking differentials—in all three axles. Let’s check it out.
HOW BIG IS IT?
In case you were wondering: no, the G 63 does not have the same wheelbase as the Traxxas G 500 (or any other TRX-4 model), as far as the distance from the front to middle (“intermediate”) axle goes. The G 500 uses the TRX-4’s 12.3 in. (312mm) wheelbase configuration; the TRX-6 pushes the intermediate axle out a little farther, to 12.8 in. (324mm).
SHIFTING GEARS
The High/Low transmission and T-Lock diffs are operated via the TQi transmitter for on-the-fly control. The radio is also Bluetooth-ready, so you can connect it to your smart device and the Traxxas Link app to make channel setting changes, view telemetry data on a dashboard (including inclinometers, very cool), manage model memory, and more.
