A simple facade introduces the character-driven interiors of this new build in Alys Beach, Florida, where a California couple is happily putting down new roots in the sand

"My 'coastal grandma' is strong in the living room," says Tinsley. "I love how collected it feels." Anisa Darnell's Truth & Co. Interior Design juxtaposed textures and styles to give the room a curated look-from the rattan sofa table to the burled wood console and faux shagreen coffee table.

It was her first trip to the local DMV that made Tinsley Hutson-Wiley wonder if life in Alys Beach, Florida, was too good to be true. "Compared to the DMV in San Francisco, this place felt like a trip to the spa," remembers Tinsley, who had lived in the Bay Area for 25 years. "Everyone was smiling and happy. I took a number but never sat down, because within five minutes, I had everything I needed-and a license plate that said, 'Endless Summer'."

While all the houses in Alys Beach boast white exteriors, homeowners get to choose the shutter color. Tinsley Hutson-Wiley selected Shoreline by Weather Shield, which inspired the blue-green color palette inside.

It was, in fact, her vision of an endless summer that led Tinsley to begin looking at properties along scenic Highway 30A on the Florida Panhandle. An Alabama native, she had vacationed there as a teenager with her family, and she’d trekked cross-country with her husband, Thomas, and their two kids every summer to escape the California fog. During the pandemic, Tinsley and Thomas bid on several properties and lost them all before they got a call about a lot in Alys Beach.
