The rapid expansion of wind and solar power capacity in India has brought huge environmental and economic benefits. Utilities and distribution companies are installing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to smooth fluctuations between generation and demand. The nation is also leveraging pumped hydro storage, one of the most cost-effective large-scale storage solutions, by using excess wind/solar to pump water uphill and then generating power when needed.
